【Overview】
In recent works Zach considers “identity” as “an abstract texture that changes constantly by experiencing, and is made without breaks.” That experience is added to existing textures like a new layer. We are trying to define that abstract texture all the time, but we do not define it because it is just a layer’s assortment. I feel self-identity.

This exhibition concentrates on the question of how “waves” influence “identity” of a certain thing.

“I think the wave strongly influenced the identity of Japan, for example, I continued to destroy the” Kamikaze “that protected Japan with a picture of Hokusai representative of the world’s culture all over the world, and the country Tsunami and other things, “waves” formed the present “Japan”.
“The Great Waves” is a series of abstract paintings in which the texture of “wave” is added on the texture made of many layers in order to describe the power of waves affecting self identity . ”

【Artist Statement】

“It’s not like you”
“Looks like you are not”
“You are not that person”

As we judge people all over the world, if others’ actions do not match the image we have, we often say such things.

Then, we are what we are.

Through his work, Zach depicts the diversity and inconsistency of “identity” and is trying to define the problem of the identity we have.
