[Preliminary] Starting material recycling of oversized wooden garbage on May 1

From May 1, 2023, Shinagawa City will start material recycling (recycling from objects to objects) of oversized wooden garbage.

By recycling bulky wooden waste, which was previously incinerated at waste disposal plants, as a resource, we are able to reduce the amount of waste, reduce carbon dioxide emissions during incineration, and curb the consumption of newly used natural resources. We will contribute to the realization of a recycling-oriented society.

Unsuitable materials such as metal, glass, and plastic are removed from bulky wooden waste discharged from homes, and it is made into fine chips to produce particleboards that can be used as flooring and wall materials for houses.

Oversized garbage in the ward in 2021 was 4,432 tons, an increase of about 1.5 times compared to five years ago. Through this project, it is expected that approximately 1,040 tons (26% of all bulky waste) of wooden bulky waste can be recycled annually.
