This post is about "Economy Class Syndrome."
Did you know that there are unexpected health risks when living in an evacuation shelter during a disaster? One of these is "economy class syndrome."
This syndrome is caused by maintaining the same posture for long periods of time.
In evacuation shelters, people may have to sit or lie down for long periods of time in limited space, which can reduce blood flow to the legs and make blood clots more likely to form.
To prevent this, try to do simple exercises such as rolling your ankles and tapping your feet regularly. Also, don't forget to stay hydrated.
Even in the difficult circumstances of a disaster, you can protect your health by being aware of the risks of this syndrome and taking steps to prevent it. As part of your health management while living in an evacuation shelter, you should also be mindful of how to prevent economy class syndrome.
Through the "Jijo-kun's One Step" project, we irregularly distribute useful, accessible, and fun disaster prevention information to help you take your first step towards disaster prevention.
