A traditional crafts experience class was held at Shinagawa Ward Miyamae Elementary School on Thursday, October 10th.
The Traditional Crafts Experience Classes are classes where artisans visit elementary schools and compulsory education schools in the ward to pass on skills and traditional culture.
The theme of this class is "Buddha Statue Carving"!!
The lecturer will be Nobumichi Enomoto of the Shinagawa Ward Traditional Crafts Preservation Society.
We were shown various types of Buddhist statues while listening to their stories, and they also demonstrated how they actually carve wood to create the shapes.
After that, the children had the experience of painting the plaster Buddha statues with paint. The children were able to create their own Buddha statues by painting them with their favorite colors and patterns.
