[Traditional crafts class: Japanese sewing]

A traditional crafts experience class was held at Shinagawa Ward Miyamae Elementary School on Monday, October 28th.

The Traditional Crafts Hands-on Classes are classes where artisans visit elementary schools and compulsory education schools in the ward to pass on skills and traditional culture.

The theme of this class is "Japanese Dressmaking"!!
The lecturers will be Professor Hiroshi Kenmochi and Professor Noriko Takahashi from the Shinagawa Ward Traditional Crafts Preservation Society.
Using needles and thread, the children had the challenge of making unique straps by sewing together clam shells and fabric.

Many of the children had never tried sewing before and seemed to have a hard time, but they were able to create beautifully original straps.
