[Traditional Crafts Fureai Class: Buddhist Statue Sculpture]

Today, October 4th (Wednesday), a traditional crafts class was held at Shinagawa Ward Oyama Elementary School.

The Traditional Crafts Fureai Classroom is an on-site class in which craftsmen visit elementary schools and compulsory education schools in the ward to pass on techniques and lantern culture.

This time's classroom theme is "Buddha statue sculpture"! !
Professor Nobudo Enomoto, a member of the Shinagawa Ward Traditional Crafts Preservation Society, told us stories about Buddhist statues and taught us how to paint them.

As the name suggests, Buddhist statue carving usually involves using a chisel, but this time we had the experience of painting a miniature Buddha statue hardened with plaster!

While listening carefully to Mr. Enomoto's story, the students created colorful works with the sensitivity unique to elementary school students.
In the near future, new craftsmen may be born from this class!
