Today, Friday, October 4th, a traditional craft demonstration was held at the environmental learning and exchange facility "Ecol Togoshi."
The traditional craft this time is "antique repair"!!
The person demonstrating the technique will be Mr. Kamata Tamio of the Shinagawa Ward Traditional Crafts Preservation Society.
Antique repair work involves reassembling and repairing broken antiques, and can be thought of as the antique equivalent of recycling.
They demonstrated how they repair antiques using a wide variety of tools and techniques.
The antiques repaired that day ranged from record gramophones to birdcages, and one unique "repair" involved transforming a bow used in Kyudo into a walking stick.
We will continue to hold demonstrations of traditional crafts at Ecoru Togoshi.
In addition, the "Traditional Techniques and Flavors/Shinagawa Exhibition" will be held at Curian (Shinagawa Ward Community Center) on Saturday, January 25th and Sunday, January 26th, 2025.
There will be a wide variety of events planned, including demonstrations by many craftsmen, hands-on classes, and a showcase of traditional Shinagawa flavors. Please come along.
