On Monday, November 11th, a traditional crafts workshop was held at Shinagawa Ward Nakanobu Elementary School.
The Traditional Crafts Hands-on Classes are classes where artisans visit elementary schools and compulsory education schools in the ward to pass on skills and traditional culture.
The theme of this class is "Edo Sudare"!!
Mr. Yuji Suzuki from the Shinagawa Ward Traditional Crafts Preservation Society gave us instruction in the "Edo Sudare" experience!
The children had the experience of weaving Edo sudare blinds by throwing a tool called a nagedama, and also had the chance to try their hand at making placemats using Edo sudare blind manufacturing methods.
The children who completed their beautiful placemats were delighted and said, "I can't wait to use them!"
