The opening ceremony of the 49th Shinagawa Ward Mayor's Cup Boys and Girls Soccer Tournament was held at Shinagawa Central Park (1-27-14 Nishishinagawa) on Sunday, January 19, 2025, and was attended by children from the 23 participating teams and their parents.
Prior to the opening, Hayato Uematsu, the ward's official Deaflympics supporter and former head coach of the Japanese men's deaf football team, encouraged each player. He also introduced the Deaflympics to be held in 2025. The ceremony began with the return of the Shinagawa Ward Mayor's Cup from last year's winning team, and Shinagawa Ward Youth Soccer Federation Chairman Tsunashima and Mayor Morisawa offered words of support for the children and gratitude to those involved. Many principals of elementary schools in the ward also attended and encouraged the children. The opening ceremony concluded without a hitch with a magnificent athletes' oath.
This will be the last tournament for the sixth graders. The matches will be held from Sunday, January 26th until the final and third place match on Sunday, February 16th. The children will compete fiercely.
