A traditional crafts workshop was held at Shinagawa Ward Samehama Elementary School on Thursday, September 26th.
The Traditional Crafts Experience Classes are classes where artisans visit elementary schools and compulsory education schools in the ward to pass on skills and traditional culture.
The theme of this class is "Buddha Statue Carving"!!
Mr. Nobumichi Enomoto of the Shinagawa Ward Traditional Crafts Preservation Society gave a talk about Buddhist statues, and also demonstrated the process of carving wood to make a Buddhist statue. The children were fascinated by the way the wood was smoothly carved.
Afterwards, the children had the chance to paint a plaster Buddha statue, creating their own unique Buddha statue using their own colors and painting techniques.
